The Virginia Juniors, Virginia Polo’s high school team, traveled to Maryland this past weekend for some interscholastic competition. We were excited to be invited to play Marlan Farm’s team Saturday and Charm City Polo’s team Sunday at Garrison Forest School.
Our open team of Hanan, Kate, and Noah hit the road eager to play new teams and ride a variety of different ponies. Saturday at Marlan Farm they played hard, but ended the game in a loss of 12 to 21 despite an incredible 100% penalty shot conversion rate for Hanan! They played with great teamwork and never gave up against Marlan’s strong team.
Sunday the Virginia Juniors took on Charm City Polo’s open team at Garrison Forest School. Hanan, Kate, and Noah consulted with Coach Elka Sterling on how to improve their playing from the previous day and how best to assign the ponies within their team. Their teamwork was again on display as they bumped, hooked, and passed to support each other to victory with a final score of 11 to 6.
The teams had great fun traveling to play and meeting the challenge of unknown ponies, new teams, and different arenas. Some highlights from the weekend were Kate’s near side neck shot to goal from 15 yards out and her back shot pass to Hanan for a goal, Noah’s nice big shots that opened up the games, and Hanan’s lovely goals both days- and of course that impressive success rate for her penalty shots at Marlan Farm!
