Inaugural Virginia Polo Benefit Cup Brings in Over $20,000 for the Club!
Saturday September 16th, 2023 the Virginia Polo Club and CORE Real Estate held the inaugural Virginia Polo Benefit Cup at King Family Vineyards/Roseland Polo Club in Crozet, Va.
This first year event aimed to raise funds for our donor-supported club and increase awareness of our program and mission to the local polo community and polo fans.
It was a beautiful day to enjoy polo and spectacular views of the mountains at the gorgeous King Family Vineyards. The weather was ideal for the horses and spectators. The CORE Real Estate team, in blue and orange Virginia Polo jerseys, featured 2022 alumna Maddie Grant, Andrew Baldwin, Trevor Niznik, and Lucio Ocampo. Playing for Beverly Equestrian was Wil Ballhaus, Tolito Ocampo, Lizzy, and Manu. The game was fast polo, with many long, open shots sending the players down the field at a gallop in pursuit. Spectators were impressed and delighted by the level of skill and finesse on the field both with the ball and the ponies. Beverley Equestrian team secured the win by one goal over the CORE Real Estate team.
The VIP tent, hosted by CORE Real Estate, offered wine from King Family Vineyards and tasty food from El Carbon. Alongside the tent at centerfield the Virginia Polo Club tent was filled with students members selling our hats (a very popular seller!) with photos and information on the club. A highlight of the day was the Virginia Polo Club members speaking over the loudspeaker, sharing their stories of the club and why people should donate with the spectators.
Alumna and current VA Polo Board Member Demitra Hajimihalis sang the National Anthem and announced the second game.
Guests, players, and members alike had a wonderful day. It was a successful first venture for a soon to be annual event, bringing in over $20,000 for the Virginia Polo Club! Much thanks and appreciation go to Andrew Baldwin for his leadership role in planning the day and the polo. Additional thanks go to Roseland Polo Club, the King Family, and the local polo community for their support of the club and the event.

Welcome new board members!
We are excited to introduce four new alumni to the board this fall! The Virginia Polo program was extremely important to these ladies during their time at UVa and now as professionals they are joining the board to help govern the program and enable other students to experience the many benefits of our great program.
