We all love getting the Virginia Polo magazine, now let’s learn more about it.
The Making of the Magazine
Each year a dedicated group of students gather to brainstorm the magazine. Students come up with ideas for articles with the goal of interesting program alumni and to provide a window into the experiences they treasure at the polo barn and showcase the current Polo Club.
Some students lead the group, some interview subjects & write articles, some take the photographs, and others orchestrate the layout of the various features and ads to create an organized final product.
Something to look forward to…for this year’s magazine content the students have chosen to interview some well-known Virginia Polo alumni to share their stories about their experiences in the Polo Club. In addition to featuring stories of past years at Virginia Polo, the students are also featuring a story on how three VA Polo alums are building their own polo club to share polo with kids— carrying on the mission of affordable polo with young riders in Goochland, Va. Stay tuned! This one will be exciting to read how they’ve put together their talent for polo & instruction to spread the joy of polo and build a “pipeline” of Virginian players for the Polo Club at UVA.
This year the magazine committee is led by master of the Virginia Polo Instagram account Maryam Araceli Sarafzadeh and Nora Wood. Together they are steering the group of committed volunteers as they create the masterpiece that will arrive at your door this summer.
Words From a 2025 co-Editor
Maryam shared these words on what the making of the magazine means to her, including the responsibility and honor of working her way up to leading the Magazine Committee with Nora,
“Virginia Polo is a club that has allowed so many students to continue riding in college despite not having the resources they would otherwise need.
I have benefited immensely from this club, and after three years of being a part of the Virginia Polo community, I want to give back.
The magazine is crucial to informing our community about what the club has become, and to share our achievements! It helps collect support for our students to continue riding and learning at such an accessible level.
It is an honor to be part of the team that is developing the magazine and spreading awareness about Virginia Polo.”
Additional Benefits of the Magazine: Resume Builder
Aside from the enjoyment and satisfaction of creating such a beautiful Virginia Polo keepsake, the students also can use the finished product to demonstrate their prowess to future employers. The magazine’s professional appearance exemplifies the many skills they developed with this project.
