The newest member of the Virginia Polo management team, Abbie Grant, will be running the barn, managing the care of the polo ponies, and coaching the club and high school teams at the Virginia Polo Center. Abbie grew up in I/I polo and has a distinguished record of success in interscholastic competition. In addition to this, she is familiar with our club, the ponies, and players.
Abbie started playing polo when she was young and joined the Maryland Girls Varsity team in 7th grade. With this team she won 5 Girls Interscholastic National titles and individually was voted the Lynn Thompson Interscholastic Player of the Year in 2019. Throughout her years of polo, she has spent a lot of time at the Virginia Polo Center first as a participant in the summer clinics, then returning as a helper in the summer. She is excited to be living in Charlottesville.
While a college student at the University of St Andrews, in Scotland, Abbie continued playing polo and helped coach many of her friends through their first years of polo. She is passionate about coaching and thrilled to be here to help the club and high school teams.
From Coach Lou Lopez,
"I am very excited to have Abbie on board. She grew up in the interscholastic/intercollegiate polo programs. Abbie first attended our summer interscholastic clinics as a player as well as worked for VA Polo for a few summers during college. She is coming in already knowing the horses, the facility and me. She will be a great addition to the management team."
We are excited to see her thrive at Virginia Polo!
