Virginia Polo is excited to announce the hiring of our new Barn Manager & Assistant Coach, Elka Sterling.
Elka comes to us from the Cornell Polo Program. Although already an experienced equestrian, it was in the Cornell program where she had her first taste of polo as a student club member. After college in 2020 she returned to the program as Assistant Coach where she trained new club members to ride and to play polo. She then unexpectedly took the reins as Interim Head Coach in January 2022; she embraced the responsibility and dynamic duties of running an active 40 horse intercollegiate polo program.
Elka’s favorite aspects of I/I polo programs are providing top quality horse care to the ponies and helping new players learn the game from the first time they swing a mallet. In her new position there has been a call for both strengths already and she has proven herself to be gifted with beginners during our first Fall Boot Camp last Saturday.
We are excited to have her energy, dedication to horse care, and love of teaching new players at the barn.
