April 1 the Club Team loaded up their ponies and hit the road to Blacksburg to play in Virginia Tech Polo’s Mercedes Cup.
The Mercedes Cup is VT Polo’s annual fundraiser event, and the team puts much effort into making it a fun day for spectators with the polo match, half time events, and food. For many players on our Club Team it was their first opportunity to travel and play and in front of a crowd. Our team of Megan Melano, Mackenzie Craig, Katy Owens, Hannah Thomas, Maryam Araceli, and Julia Hersh were excited for the chance to demonstrate the skills they’ve been practicing and developing all year long with their coach Elka Sterling.
The team enjoyed themselves thoroughly, playing against polo friends on the Tech team, and won the match 12 to 6. Virginia Polo pony Juan took home the honor of Best Playing Pony.
