UPDATED: It was with great excitement Virginia Polo hosted the USPA Women's Arena Handicap® and USPA Women's Arena Open® this past weekend. Games were held Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the polo grounds were abuzz with players bringing ponies from Maryland, Virginia, and New York. Alumni players rented Virginia Polo ponies with students taking the opportunity to groom, watch and learn from the high level of women's arena polo.
On Saturday, the Handicap tournament was taken by Bad Ass Polo (Posey Obrecht, Demitra Hajimihalis, Josie Dorsey) against La Jefa (Katie Mitcham, Emmie Golkosky, Jessica Schmitt) in a score of 13 to 6.
Sunday, Ace Sportswear (Demitra Hajimihalis, Ingrid Donnan, Anna Winslow-Palacios) won the Open tournament over Boothwyn Pharmacy (Katie Micham, Cindy Halle, Jessica Schmitt) in a gripping game sealed by a winning goal from Anna Winslow-Palacios in the final minute of play.
