Cancellation of the National Intercollegiate Championships

Dear friends of Virginia Polo,

It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the National Intercollegiate Championships and all other events scheduled to take place during the week of March 30th through April 5th. While we're sure this won't come as a surprise due to growing health concerns surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, we're sorry to say that the USPA has made the difficult decision to suspend all remaining Intercollegiate/Interscholastic tournaments for the academic year.

Following the recommendations of the Government of Virginia to avoid gatherings of more than ten people, we will not be holding public events or matches until further notice. The University of Virginia has also cancelled all events on Grounds until at least May 15th; all classes are being held online for the duration of the semester and students have been encouraged to leave Grounds. While we certainly miss having all of our students around to help, the barn is still running and our horses are of course receiving regular care.

We're immensely proud of the hard work our student athletes have put in this year, including their win at Southeast Regionals just two weeks ago. While this is not how we hoped the season would end, our current priority is the safety and health of our players, staff, and friends of Virginia Polo and the US Polo Association. We hope the National Championship may be rescheduled in future.
