Invitation from the King Family, King Family Vineyards, & Roseland Polo Club:

In the hills of Virginia, the roots of horse country run deeper than almost anywhere else in the country. Steeplechase, horse shows, fox hunting, trail riding, and polo have long been a part of the area’s history.

One key organization that has long contributed to this tradition is the Virginia Polo Club. Founded in the early 1950’s, Virginia Polo preserves Central Virginia’s horse culture by providing hundreds of students of all backgrounds with the opportunity to participate and learn from this historic sport.

Polo provides a unique learning experience, combining the lessons learned from caring for a living creature with those obtained from playing a team sport. The Club is a student-run organization and relies on the teamwork of its members to care for the facilities and more than 60 horses.

Many reading this letter may also be familiar with the Sunday polo matches held at King Family Vineyards. An event that started as a small friendly match between friends in 2004 has grown to a family-friendly event for the Charlottesville area and beyond. The majority of the players seen on the field on Sundays are there due to the opportunities provided by Virginia Polo. Whether they were introduced to the sport through the club and then continued to play after graduation, or are still playing in the school program, most are able to participate thanks to the club’s efforts.

Virginia Polo, Inc. is not funded by the University of Virginia and relies on the generosity of donors to maintain its mission of “affordable polo for any student.” Please join us in giving future generations of UVA students the opportunity to learn and grow from the sport of polo!

The Black Tie and Boots Ball event will be held in the Carriage House at King Family Vineyards on Friday, February 14th, 2020 from 7:30 pm to midnight. Only 200 tickets are available. Tickets include live music by the Wil Gravatt Band along with heavy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar for wine and beer.
